Default server page shows when domain type set to parked domain

my domain is dianascreen.com
I have added domain diana.public.abelscreen.com as a parked domain
I have pointed diana.public.abelscreen.com to 216.194.166.166 on Dotster a week ago
When I ping diana.public.abelscreen.com it resolves to 216.194.166.166 (my ip address)
In several browser and computers i get server not found
Using 216.194.166.166 in a browser I get the default server page
I have a index.html in the web root
What else do I do to get my index.html to show.

Thanks for the question and sorry for the problem with the parked domain. The issue actually has to do with that domain type. A parked domain is a re-direct, meaning it's not meant to display its own display page, but another location. If you're actually trying to display a web page, then it should be set to an add-on domain or subdomain . Currently, the IP (216.194.166.166) is pointed to the server, so since you assigned a parked domain to it, the server is basically trying to re-direct to that IP and show a web page which does not exist. This is why the server page is showing. If you want to show a web page, then you would create a subdomain/add-on domain and then add the index page to the files for that subdomain/add-on domain. The server then will know to look for the files and display them.

Perfect! It works!
Now this is not problem per say but putting 216.194.166.166 in the browser still gives the server default page.
Just to school me on how this system works why is this so?

When you assign an IP address to a location, it's like pinning an address tag somewhere in the internet saying "here's where the web traffic needs to go for this address." In your case, the IP you defined at Doster is the IP assigned to your dedicated server. Since the IP can be used for multiple domains/subdomains (and other things like email or ftp) on the account, the IP address assigned to the server will only bring up the base server identification page if you use the IP address directly in a browser. The server can't identify what specific area of the server you need to see based on just the IP address alone.

I also noticed that your DNS authority is a bit mixed up. Name server settings currently look like this for abelscreen.com:

abelscreen.com. 172799 IN NS ns3.nameresolve.com.
abelscreen.com. 172799 IN NS ns1.nameresolve.com.
abelscreen.com. 172799 IN NS ns2.nameresolve.com.
abelscreen.com. 172799 IN NS ns4.nameresolve.com.
abelscreen.com. 172799 IN NS ns2.inmotionhosting.com.
abelscreen.com. 172799 IN NS ns.inmotionhosting.com.

If you intend to control your DNS settings with Dotster, then you should remove the name server designations for ns.inmotionhosting.com and ns2.inmotionhosting.com. They are not needed since you are defining your DNS at Dotster and not with InMotion Hosting. If you don't want to use Dotster, then remove the ns1-ns4 settings for Nameresolve.com. This would mean that your DNS settings are defined at InMotion Hosting. Remember that making any of these changes may require a little time before the change takes effect due to DNS propagation - typically no longer than 24 hours.

If you intend to obtain root access for your dedicated server, my recommendation would be that you control your DNS through the Web Host Manager as you can centralize control for everything in the interfaces with your hosting solution at InMotion Hosting.
