Replacing an existing website with a newly built one?

Hi there,
This isn't quite about a transfer as such; and it's pretty basic I guess.
We've had a website with 'Intuit/Homestead' for a couple of years. It was put together using their own in-house website builder.

We've just moved the domain name (forerunnersuk.com), via yourselves. The Website is still working fine, which is great.

However we are currently rebuilding a new look website, off line, using 'Rapidweaver 5" and would like to publish it to Inmotion - effectively replacing the current (Intuit) one.

In other words, we wanted to delete the current site (Intuit) and then finally shut down the Intuit account; we would then like to publish the new look one using 'Rapidweaver 5' to the same domain name. (forerunnersuk.com)

Would it be that simple? i.e. Delete the website on the Intuit Management page and then upload as if starting from scratch. (of course there'd be a period where there was no website)

It was just a question of, will there be complications etc? Hope this all makes sense. Many thanks

Hey Dave,

Thanks for posting your question. I'm more than happy to assist you. I've looked over your account and it appears your domain is still pointed to your intuit account. So replacing your site with no downtime will be relatively easy.

The first step is to upload your rapidweaver website to your InMotion Hosting account. You'll want to make sure in your publishing settings you use your temp URL to publish since your domain name isn't currently pointed to your InMotion account.

Once the website is up on our server here, you'll want to test your website using the temp url.

Then, in the final step, you'll want to change the domain's nameservers to the InMotion nameservers. This will switch where your domain is pointed to. You'll need to do this change at wherever you purchased the domain name originally.

Now, once you change the nameservers, it can take up to 24 hours to take effect. The good part about this is, since your site is still "live" on the Intuit server, it will display the "old" site until propagation occurs. Once the changes take effect, your new site will display.

At this point, you can cancel your Intuit account.

I hope this helps! If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us.

Thanks!

Tim S
