Question Asked by oemino

Connection is Untrusted - The certificate ... is self-signed

Resolved Question
Hi,

I'm working for my client's website www.awoa.com.
Recently he purchased an SSL Certificate and the setup is completed.
I tried to access the secure page but I got SSL Error warning about certificate is not trusted.

Below is the certificate information:

This CA Root certificate is not trusted. To enable trust, install this certificate in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store.

Issued to : secure.awoa.com
Issued by : secure.awoa.com

Valid from 2/22/2012 to 2/21/2013

The page that I tried to access : https://secure.awoa.com

How to resolve this issue and make the certificate trusted?
Many thanks.

Regards,
Mino

Hi Tim,

My client sees this matter by comparing it to Paypal's certificate.
When you open Paypal secure site on Firefox you will see that Paypal company name appears on the left site of the address bar. https://www.paypal.com
(Company name also appears on Internet Explorer and Safari.)
And when you click on it, there an info about the company that runs the secure site.
Click on More Information and there is Paypal, Inc. as the owner of the website.
On https://secure.awoa.com the Owner says
"This website does not supply ownership information."
I guess this is the same reason why Opera says "Secure" instead of "Trusted" on the padlock icon.
Paypal (https://www.paypal.com) got "Trusted" sign on Opera.

It is better to have the "Trusted" sign, isn't it?
People will feel more secure doing stuffs on the site.

I appreciate your help on this issue.
Thanks!

Regards,
Mino

Hi Mino,

Thanks for getting back to me. Opera is supposed to display the "secure" bar on the browser. If you click on it, and select "Details" you'll see the Comodo certificate is installed.

I tried to replicate the warning message you were seeing in FireFox but was unable to. Is it showing the certificate? Have you tried clearing your web browsers cache?

I hope this helps! If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us.

Thanks!

Hi Tim,

I got another warning on Mozilla Firefox.
"This website does not supply ownership information."
And on Opera the padlock says "Secure" not "Trusted".
Could you help on this?
Thanks.

Regards,
Mino

Hi Tim,

Thank you for the quick response.
I have tried accessing the secure page and the warning has disappeared.
The SSL Certificate is now valid and trusted.

Thanks!
