The inMotion team recently transferred my site. I am now getting constant errors that the automated backup is failing. Here is an example of the error message:
Summary
==================================================
Courses: 6
OK: 0
Skipped: 4
Error: 0
Unfinished: 2
Warning: 0

Some of your courses weren't saved!!

Please take a look at your backup logs in:
https://www.ligminchalearning.com/crs2/report/backups/index.php

The report referenced by the URL in the message does not give any further information, other than some course backups were "unfinished".

I have updated manually to the most current release of Moodle, 2.5.2. The errors keep on coming.

What are the recommended Moodle backup settings for the inMotion servers?

Thanks!
John Jackson

I should add that the backup is purely for the Moodle portion of my site, and uses the build in course backup methods found within Moodle's core functions.

Hello JohnJa,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems with the Moodle database backup. I was unable to view the link you provided as it brings me to a login screen. I also checked to see if there was any documentation in regards to possible issues with backup after migration. If your URL changed, then you may need to look at this article: Moodle Backup problem after migrating.

We do not have any specific settings for backing up Moodle on an InMotion Hosting server. You can review the creating a Moodle backup tutorial that we provide. However, the problem may simply revolve around path specific issues that may different on this server from your previous host. If you can provide more information on how to see your backup logs, then we may be able to review and see what's causing the problem.

Sorry again for the issues you're seeing for the Moodle backup.

Arnel C.

My domain did not change, so the forum thread referenced does not apply.

When I step through the process documented on "creating a Moodle backup" as suggested above I do not get an error. That triggers a manual backup. I cannot provide the password to view the log, for that is the system admin password, but I could provide a screen shot of the report, if there was a way to upload atttachments. However the report doesn't say much. Basically it says there was an unspecified error with one course backup, and on another course backup it lists the status as "unfinished".

I have reviewed all the backup settings and do not see anything out of the ordinary. And they were working without error on my previous host.

Any other ideas?

Hello Johnja,

Sorry to hear that the issue persists. You mentioned that the "backup settings are working on your previous host." How can they be working with the same URL, if your current URL is pointed to InMotion Hosting's URL? Did they use a different URL, or were you simply stating that they work previously?

I did some further looking into the error message that you were seeing and it is defined in the Moodle documentation: Automated Course backup.

Basically, the error messages you're seeing indicate that there are no problems with the backup. Checkout the article's error message definitions. If you think that a problem still exists, you will need to go through all of the settings for the Automated course backups.

I hope this helps to clarify the issue!

Regards,
Arnel C.
