Getting error on linking virtuemart to joomla web page

Fatal error: Call to a member function setState() on a non-object in /home/s2l/public_html/modules/mod_s5_spotlight_news/helper.php on line 78

This is a new install. Have deleted and reloaded three times with same result.

VM version 2. Joomla is actually 1.7 and I'm not the web person.

This error appears to be a code error, likely either an improper call or an incompatibility between Joomla and the module.

We would like to help and check further. To do so, we would need to know the exact steps to duplicate the error. For example, is the error occurring when you first install the module? when you are adding a product? etc...
