how to enable dsearch friendly urls in joomla 1.5

I am trying to find out how to enable search friendly urls in Joomla 1.5. It has failed in the past. The Joomla site says to first find out if InMotion Hosting has Apache, IIS or Nginx servers:

I hope to be able to follow one. Can anyone help?
