How do I submit my sitemap in xml

When I submitted my sitemap to Google my Google analytics show that the site is listed but has a red X and shows no URL.
In addition it says my sitemap is in HTML form and it is not supported.
Does anyone have experience with this?

Hi geosh2@yahoo.com, Thanks for posting your question. Typically, the easiest method to getting a XML sitemap to Google is to go to a third party website and have one created. Once the XML sitemap is created you will need to download it to your local computer. Then, you'll upload the sitemap to your root folder for your specific domain. Once the sitemap is uploaded, Google will still need to verify that it is there. This is not an instant verification. Once you upload the sitemap, it still may be a few hours before it is actually validated.
