Is there a way to add an email alias?

It appears I will have to add a second email account then forward one to the other. But the documentation says I will end up with 2 copies of the email, one in each account. That means the account I'm not checking will fill up.

Bill@xxx.com is our salesman. He has his own account. Sales@xxx.com should forward to him without the entries in the sales mailbox accumulatine. How do I do this?

Hi Pointyhair,

Thanks for posting your question. I'm more than happy to assist you. If you want all the emails to forward from the sales@xxx.com to bill@xxx.com, you can delete the sales@xxx.com email account in cPanel. Then set up the forwarder to forward all the emails from sales@xxx.com to bill@xxx.com

Since the email is only being forwarded and never actually reaches the sales account, it will not store them. It will forward them over without leaving a copy at sales@xxx.com since it doesn't exist.

I hope this helps! If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us.

Thanks!

It wasn't clear to me that the sales@xxx.com must be a true mailbox for this to work. On other platforms, setting up an alias does not require a mailbox for the forwarder, only for the forwardee. Tim's answer is correct, but it could have been made more obvious if it said "sales@xxx.com must be a mailbox for this to work".

Upon closer reading of Tim's response, I should correct my own previous comment... Tim says "you can delete sales@xxx.com", but I could not get forwarding to work unless the forwarder had a true mailbox account. So it seems to me that a forwarding alias will only work if that address has a mailbox.
