Cannot log in with FTP client

I am trying to login via Transmit on Mac to my website. Every attempt is met with "server said: login attempt failed."

I can, however, login to my CPanel. I have tried connecting with the client using that login to no avail. I tried creating an ftp account and using that information in the client, and nothing worked.

To verify it simply wasn't my client, I used two other clients which also failed.

Thanks you for your help.

I know someone will be along later and may be able to give you a better answer to your question, but I also know how frustrating it can be to wait for an answer.

1. To make sure you're using the correct information, go to Account Management Panel (AMP) Home, and/or click the home button in AMP.

2. At the very bottom, you'll see your main domain name and a clickable link to "Details" which you should click.

3. You need 3 pieces of information; you'll get two from here. Note your USERNAME and your HOSTNAME. You'll also need your cPanel password.

4. The information from HOSTNAME should go into Transmit under "Server," the information from USERNAME goes into Transmit under, well... "User Name," and then your password.

Hope this helps?

Thank you for your quick response. Unfortunately, i went this route to make certain I had not made an error on my password. All the information checks out, and I can log into CPanel no problem. The other strange thing is that I have used this "favorite" configuration in Transmit for three years with no difficulty. I am baffled.

Hi Zakkorama,

Sorry to hear you're having problems with login. I unfortunately can not confirm the exact account that you are using. It's possible that you are on an account where your site has been moved to a different server. If that is the case, then your FTP settings that are in "favorite" may no longer apply. Secondly, our systems team has rotated password on some FTP accounts in order to provide security after a large attempt at hacking these sites was detected. Typically, these accounts have been notified prior of the change, but it's always possible that you never saw the email.

If you need to reset the password, then go to the Account Management Panel (AMP) to change it.

If you continue to have difficulties with the password to login to FTP, please provide us information on you specific account and we can look into the issue and notify through email. Otherwise, please contact our live support team if you require further assistance to reset the password - they can do this privately (answers published on this website are public).

Thanks for your reply. How do I provide the support team with my account information in a private setting? Also, I have reset my password and tried logging in. I can log in to CPanel. I can't log into FTP. I have tried creating an FTP account in CPanel, then entered the information as provided with the link "config FTP client," with no luck.

Thanks,

Z

Hello zakkorama,

Thank you for your question. Since this is a public forum, it is not a secure area to post account information, however you can contact live support, there are links on the bottom under Current Customers.

I recommend checking your FTP settings, here is a helpful link to our FTP guide.

We are happy to help, but will need more information to troubleshoot further, such as the hostname you are using.

If you are using a domain name, make sure it is pointed to our servers, and you have allowed up to 24 hours for propagation to complete.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.
Thank you,
