I've purchased a new domain name (newdomain.com, say) and want to point it to my BoldGrid site which is currently at www.olddomain.com/xyz_wp. How can I accomplish this?

Hello fllynch7,

Thanks for your question about domain mapping. This depends on how you would like to use the domains going forward. If you would like to use the new domain, you may consider migrating the site to the new domain, testing to make sure everything works correctly, and then use a 301 redirect from the old domain to the new domain.

Or, if you would like to continue hosting the site on the old domain, you can use the latter part of the above paragraph: use a 301 to direct traffic from the new domain to the old one.

Best,
Christopher M.

My question omitted the fact that "olddomain.com" is currently hosted by InMotion, and I'd like to add on the new domain to my InMotion account. From my research in the help material here, it looks like I may have to (1) add on the new domain; (2) install WordPress in the new domain; and (3) move the WordPress folder "xyz_wp" to the subdirectory created in adding on the new domain. Is that correct?

Let me rephrase this question. Currently I have a BoldGrid site in olddomain.com/xyz_wp (hosted on InMotion). I want newdomain.com to take browsers directly to the BoldGrid site. Is is possible to add newdomain.com as an add on to a new directory "newdomain" (since the addon directory must not exist, according to the documentation), and then copy "xyz_wp" into the "newdomain" directory so that "newdomain.com" brings up the BoldGrid site directly?

You can set the newdomain to be an addon domain under the cPanel account and set the document root to match the folder the boldgrid site is currently in, then you would just need to login to the boldgrid dashboard and set the site home and site url to match the new domain under the general settings.

Thanks, Kyle. That worked perfectly. I verified this after flushing my DNS cache. Thanks again!
