Mac characters showing up weird when importing to sql
Category: Databases
I'm working with a database in MySql on local server via MAMP, and i'm on a mac, when i export the database to import it onto the live server, some characters come out with a black diamond ?.... i have a bunch of items to put in with these characters... quote marks, apostrophes, etc. i'm exporting and importing as UTF-8 or what ever its called, am i doing this wrong? dosen't the .sql file exist somewhere where it can be just copied over? Can i just export the database as CSV, work in excel, and import it back in? Help I'm lost! :(

Hello diannesz, The database collation for the database adn the tables you are importing into will also need to be set for utf-8. Also, you can import either CSV or .sql files into the phpmyadmin. If you are still having issues, please ensure the file you want to import is uploaded to your account and contact our support department at support@inmotionhosting.com with the specific details of what is showing up incorrectly. Be sure to validate your account with either the last 4 digits of the credit card on file, or the current Account Management Panel (AMP) password. Best Regards, Scott M |
