Help diagnosing error message after transferring Wordpress hosting from GoDaddy
Category: Databases
Hello,
I need some help with transferring my Wordpress blog from GoDaddy to InMotion (hosting only). I’ve searched the forums regarding my problem and have gone through all the suggestions.
When I go to my temp URL, I get this error message: "Error establishing a database connection".
My temp URL is:
http://ecbiz115.inmotionhosting.com/~bharar5/
I've copied all my wordpress files from GoDaddy to public_html and have also imported my SQL DB into a new DB that I created. I know my new DB is fine since I can query it and get all my posts/comments etc.
I've also updated wp-config like this:
// ** MySQL settings - You can get this info from your web host ** //
/** The name of the database for WordPress */
define('DB_NAME', 'bharar5_wrdp1');
/** MySQL database username */
define('DB_USER', 'bharar5_wrdp1');
/** MySQL database password */
define('DB_PASSWORD', 'secretpassword');
/** MySQL hostname */
define('DB_HOST', 'localhost');
/** Database Charset to use in creating database tables. */
define('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8');
/** The Database Collate type. Don't change this if in doubt. */
define('DB_COLLATE', '');
I've double-checked my db_name/db_user/password and it is correct.
Note that my domain is still with GoDaddy; I’m simply transferring my hosting to InMotion.
If the DB/server is down, how can I check that?
Can you help? I'm not sure what's wrong...
Thanks in advance!

Hi bharari, Thanks for posting your question. I'm more than happy to assist you today. I have fixed the issue for you. I removed your user and attached a new user with the same password and it corrected the issue. This resolved the issue, since it was likely the wrong password in the wp-config file. If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us. Thanks! Tim S |
