will Softaculous Clone function do "EXACTLY" the same as this Article 329: Moving your Wordpress from a subfolder to the root directory (in my case i modify 329, i'm moving from add-on domain to add-on domain)
http://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/wordpress/329-move-folders

i was just on the phone with IMH tech and we are NOT sure what is entered in the Clone Installation>"In Directory". i thought to leave it blank because Clone would use the name you entered in previous step "Choose Domain" and use the above domain name as the directory name. the tech said he thought i should use "public_html/examplenewaddondomainname.com". this scares me because a few days ago several IMH techs said DO NOT use public_html in path you could wipe out your account (but they were referring to article 329). HELP!!! (posted this in my Wordpress Question but i feel this Clone Function is applicable to EVERYTHING in softaculous, not just WP.)

Hello TheBoatPeople,

Thanks for the question! The "In Directory" refers to the location of program installations on the web server. If it is BLANK (meaning no entry), then the default location would be placed in the public_html folder. If there is something placed in the "in directory" blank like the word "folder", then a sub-directory would be created with that name. The path would look like this:

public_html/folder

Note that the folder is created UNDER the public_html folder by default. The public_html folder is known as the root domain or primary domain of the account. The "in directory" option applies to your hosting account, so that if you DO already have files in the public_html folder, it's possible that you will have conflicts if there is a file or folder of the same name. Therefore, it is highly recommneded that you check out the location of the installation by using something like the file manager in cPanel in order to look at your actual files currently saved on the web server.

I hope this helps to answer you're question! Coincidentally, we actually have a community support member currently writing an article on this very function. You should see an article on that topic in the Support Center within the next day.

Kindest regards,
Arnel C.

Hi Boatpeople,

Here's a link to the article that I was referring to about the Softaculous Clone function:

Cloning your site.

Hope that helps!

thanks arnel. i need the article because i still don't know how to proceed. it seems softaculous wouldn't allow us to choose an add-on in from "In Directory" that could wipe out our account. and we do need to know if Clone actually does EVERYTHING that article 329 does!
thanks you!

The "In Directory" field will be left blank. You will simply choose the domain that you want to clone the installation to within the option on the clone screen. In Directory is used for installing to a subfolder of the domain such as exampledomain.com/blog or something else of that nature. If the software you are cloning is the content that you want on the home page of the other domain, you will just leave this field blank.

i did the Clone from add-on domain to add-on domain and it didn't completely work. you can see at this image http://imageshack.com/a/img707/5401/cc0f.jpg
Header image lost, theme color lost, and Clone displays the actual WP Pages in the default hierarchy and NOT in the Apperance>Menu where i created the menu. but a browsing, i think the URLs might be correctl

As this clone function is something that Softaculous has recently added to their auto-installer, it does appear to have an issue with moving some functions over from previous Wordpress installations. I expect them to fix this in the future, but for now you may need to either re-create the menu, or move Wordpress as you would previously. Re-creating the menu would be much faster and easier.

JeffMa, it seems Clone should be working if it's released. being non-techincal, i can see the menus are Pages not the Menus created, and i can see the color header image gone... but what else could be gone that i'm not immediately aware of? i've got a real bare bones WP site, it should have worked!

ps. in the Softaculous forum, there guy told me to create a Support Ticket on their system, i did. but inmotionhosting is their direct customer and i think inmotionhosting should create a Support Ticket.

i just looked more closely at Softaculous forum instructions to me. i did create a ticket but i didn't give them my Cpanel user id and password (come on, they're not inmotion who i'm paying and who i know. i really don't know Softaculous Company can i safely give them my account password? inmotion has a business agreement with softaculous, i don't. inmotion hosting should create a support ticket!
i have NRS the manufacturer, i'm a dealer, telling me to take down nrsrafts.com immediately (even though
a person gave us the go ahead to use it.) an orderly move to new domain will preserve the site ranking. i could lose my NRS dealership. if Clone isn't fixed real fast, i'm nervous following article 329 cause i'm still not clear on those instructions. it might be as easy as you telling me "leave In Directory blank". but i really don't know for sure.
(i wish we could edit our posts so i don't fill up your page, sorry!)

Hello BoatPeople,

Thank you for pointing out this inconsistency. I did some testing based on what you have posted so far with two domain names. I made changes in header image, background color, and added menus to the source installation and then cloned it to the second domain.

The second domain uses the same theme, but set the color and header images back to default and the menu was not activated. I did check and all the data was there (menu was present, header image was there) however all the options were still set to default. I quickly re-activated everything and the site was back to the same state as the source site. I am not sure if this was Softaculous' intent. I would not have expected this type of behavior.

The good news is that everything was indeed brought over, so any options that are 'missing' should simply be disabled and need to be re-enabled. I will work on finding a solution and updating the article to reflect any additional steps needed to ensure the sites appear to be the same after the process.
