Do I need to transfer or "point" a business email purchased through Network Solutions?

I just pointed my domain name you your servers, as I am going to use inmotion for my hosting. Will my business email that I purchased at Network Solutions, which has my domain in it, still work? Or is there something I need to do now that Inmotion will host my domain?

If you have purchased a hosting service with Inmotion, you can use whatever domain you'd like to use, but the domain itself needs to be pointing to the InMotion servers if you intend send us your web traffic. This change is typically handled by changing the name servers for the domain - when you do that, all website traffic and email traffic changes over to our server automatically. If you are only intending to move web traffic but keep email traffic, then you need to have an A record changed in the DNS. However, it appears that you want to keep email at Network Solutions but the web traffic going to our hosting services. If you want to that, then you will need to 1) Change the name servers to point to our hosting service; 2) Setup MX records to send email to the Network Solutions servers. You will need to get these settings from Network Solutions. If you are not familiar with changing DNS to make this happen, then please submit a verified email to support@inmotionhosting.com (verification uses either the last 4 digits of the credit card or the AMP password). Provide the appropriate settings for the email to remain at Network Solutions and they can make that happen for you. Note that we do have full email services available here if you want to move it all here.

I am fine with moving all traffic--web and email to inmotion. I just purchased a year of email service at Network Solutions for $80. I have not sent or received any emails yet, as the webpage is not live yet. Should I create a new email at your site (using the same url) or will they automatically send my email information to you. I am confused on how to proceed in regards to my email. Especially since I just purchased it from them, before knowing I was going to go with inmotion for hosting.

I want to keep the email address the same as what I registered with Network Solutions.

Hello SubTubs,

Since you say that you want to have email AND webtraffic to be handled at our servers, then you will need to simply change the name servers. The email for the domain that you're using with us will be coming to our servers (at InMotion) UNLESS you specify that you want email to be sent to Network Solutions. If so, then as per my previous comment, you'll need to have MX records changed here so that email is handled at Network Solutions. Email is based on the DOMAIN NAME that you're using. So, if you're using the same domain name, once the propagation for the server change has changed the name servers to us, then ALL website traffic AND email traffic will come to us. If the domain that you're using at Network Soutions is the same as the one you're using with our hosting service, then emails will not make it to Network Solutions after the domain name servers change over.
