By hosting with InMotion, you've already taken a positive step toward being green. Using a hosting firm like InMotion is much more energy efficient than having your own servers and InMotion is one of the most efficient companies in the business. But there is a lot more that you can do and good reasons to do it.
Being green in the workplace has many benefits. Of course the most important is limiting the pollution of the environment, making your company a better citizen in the global community. Lower energy consumption and recycling can also reduce your operating costs. You might also save on taxes by taking advantage of government tax credits. If you let people know about your green efforts, your customers might think even more highly of you, leading to more sales.
As a global community, it is important that we take steps to reduce our carbon footprint. Here at InMotion, we are working to make a positive impact on the environment.
Did You Know?
- InMotion's west coast data center uses green technology to keep cool. Outside air cooling technology allows us to vent the hot air out of the building entirely to bring cooler air in. Our data center is only cooled through computer room air conditioning (CRAC) units when high outside temperatures or humidity makes it necessary. This CRAC technology, greatly reduces the energy consumed by the data center for cooling purposes. With this technology we are able to cut our cooling costs by 70% and reduce our carbon output by 2,000 tons per year.
- InMotion's Virginia Beach office utilizes an intelligent HVAC system that is equipped to make use of outside air cooling, LED and CF lighting and energy star appliances and monitors. We are always active in seeking methods to become more "green" in our offices.
- InMotion recycles to reduce the waste produced at our offices. We partner with local recycling companies to recycle aluminum and plastic containers in our offices. Waste is then taken to a recycling center and treated properly.
- To save paper, we've stopped the biweekly printing of pay stubs and utilize a paperless pay system.
- We donate used computers and servers to companies that recycle and/or rebuild systems, as well as donate to families and students that are unable to afford electronics.
- We've been planting trees since 2010 to replenish natural resources. InMotion has partnered with Trees For The Future to provide for the planting of over 5,000 trees in support of agroforestry.
Get Behind a Movement That Matters!
There are ways that your business can take steps to limit your wastes and help to make a difference too!
-
Reuse paper or identify strategies for paper recycling, aluminum recycling and plastic recycling. Did you know that paper makes up 29% waste for municipal areas? That's more than any other material Americans throw away. Recycling reduces greenhouse emissions, conserves natural resources, and saves landfill space. Even in the workplace, the average worker generates two pounds of paper waste a day, and paper waste makes up 90% of company waste. By performing a paper audit and researching places to take the paper you recycle, you can easily reduce the waste your company generates. Also, collect your aluminum and plastic beverage containers and take them to a community drop-off center.
Donate old obsolete electronics. Don't let them go to a landfill. "eCycling" promotes reusing or recycling old electronics. Reusing extends the life of the electronic, while recycling helps recover valuable materials and reduces greenhouse emissions.
Bring your favorite coffee mug to work! It will help save 500 disposable cups from being trashed. We all know that a morning cup of Joe is essential, so bringing a reusable thermos to work could even get you a discount at your local coffee shop. If every Starbuck's customer used a reusable thermos, we could save 1,181,600 tons of wood, 2,040,061,237 pounds of carbon dioxide, and 4,441,093,624 gallons of water every year.
It's Easy Being Green
With just a small bit of focus and implementation of ideas, such as those mentioned above, you too can have a "green" business. When trying to reduce waste, the most effective way to reduce is not to create it in the first place. By reducing and reusing, we can begin to cut down on waste management costs and save natural resources. Being green in the workplace has many benefits. When you're green, you use less energy and limit pollution to the environment. All it takes are the small efforts of a few to eventually make the world better for future generations.
